*Also* Pretty Impressive...

Keeley Hazell, British goodness. Yum. NSFW gallery here.

Pretty Impressive...

From LiveScience.com:

A city-sized iceberg has broken off an island near Antarctica.

The iceberg is about 8 miles wide and 15 miles long. It broke free of the Fimbul Ice Shelf, a large glacial ice sheet along the northwestern section of Queen Maud Land, in the eastern Weddell Sea near Antarctica.

Oh Baby!

Saw this on Discovery.com: El Ninos Could Become the Norm. Being from California, I associate El Nino with the heavens opening up and dumping what amounts to an ocean on greater Los Angeles. "What's a little rain," you ask? Well, we in CA don't have regular seasons, and the sequence goes like this: rainy season leads to mudslides, which dry up in the summer along with everything else, and then segue into fire season. Trust me, folks, old CA isn't going to break off and fall into the ocean... instead we'll all be burnt to a crisp long before that happens.

For a latino-named phenomenon, we have a hot latina babe, natch. Ana Beatriz Barros.

Shrinkage: no matter your definition, it's never a good thing.

Adriana Lima, courtesy of GorillaMask.net. Yes, I know, it's another black and white photo. Kind of makes you feel cheated, right? Like by not seeing these pics in color, you're missing something...

...Well, it's pretty much the same way I feel when I realize really spectacular glaciers, like the one in this photo, will be gone before I get the money/chance to ever visit them. Why? Well, probably because, as the Independent reports, there is chilling proof that glacier meltdown is getting faster. To quote, "at this rate [of melting], about half of the total volume of Alpine glaciers would melt by 2025 and less than 10 per cent would still be ice by the end of the century."

Lisa and Larry

Lisa Snowdon, proving once and for all that the UK is not all bland boiled beef and watery mashed potatoes. I give her my Royal Seal of Approval. Plus, it helps that her name is great for easy puns, i.e., "I'd love to put on my mittens and go roll around in that Snowdon."

Speaking of forces of nature, Cyclone Larry is kicking the crap out of Australia. Sure, Larry isn't a very intimidating name, but this guy packed winds of 125mph at landfall and is the strongest they've seen down under since 1931. Of course, I'm sure many will say this has absolutely NOTHING to do with the worldwide rise in ocean temperatures, and that if we close our eyes and hold our breath, climate change will just go away. To them, I just say this: come on.

First up...

A redhead! I thought it only fitting that a site entitled Planet Hot start out with a fiery beauty. Said beauty is Alexandria Karlsen, model extraordinaire, friend of Hugh Hefner, and overall gift to mankind. If you enjoy this pic of her, by all means look her up on Google. And, of course, pay a visit to her site, AlexandriaKarlsen.net.

Now for the scary part. Call me the ultimate killjoy, but Reuters tells us that scientists report that global warming has reached a catastrophic tipping point, where global warming is close to continuing even if we were to stop all emissions of greenhouse gases today.

If true, this would be really, really bad news.

To quote the article, "The report, based on research published in journals including Science and Nature, also found the effects of climate change were so severe they should spur urgent action to prevent more damage and to combat damage that has already occurred."

We'd better hustle, indeed.

On that note, please check out the BBC Climate Change Experiment, a global effort designed to harness the spare power of individuals' personal computers to conduct the largest study of climate change, ever. You too can help.

Climate Change and Hot Women

Hi all. Thought up an idea for a blog this morning, and I hope you enjoy it. It combines two interests of mine that I'm really passionate about: climate change and really deliciously beautiful women. I figure, if the women pull in a few extra people to read about climate change, then maybe the world might just get a little more liveable.

Look for more in the (hopefully near) future.

Sincerely,

Mister Getdown
